In Fashion Fundamentals 101, students will explore the essential principles and concepts of the fashion industry. The course covers a wide range of topics, including:

The course is divided into nine modules, each focusing on different aspects of fashion:

1. Introduction to Fashion:

This module explores the definition of fashion, its role in society, and the differences between fashion, style, and trends. It also provides an overview of the fashion industry, including key players such as designers, brands, and consumers.

2. History & Evolution of Fashion:

This module covers major eras in fashion history, from ancient times to the modern day. It examines how culture, politics, and technology have influenced fashion, highlights iconic designers and their contributions, and discusses fashion cycles and how trends resurface.

3. Fashion Design Principles:

This module introduces the elements of design, such as color, shape, line, texture, and space, and the principles of fashion, including balance, proportion, emphasis, and harmony. It also covers understanding silhouettes and body types, and provides an introduction to textile science.

4. Fashion Illustration & Creative Expression:

This module teaches the basics of fashion sketching and illustration, both digital and hand-drawn. It includes mood boards and concept development, and encourages exploring personal style and creativity.

5. Garment Construction & Textiles:

This module covers the basics of sewing and pattern making, understanding different types of fabric and their uses, introduction to draping and fit adjustments, and clothing care and maintenance.

6. The Psychology of Fashion:

This module examines how clothing affects mood, confidence, and behavior, fashion as a form of self-expression and identity, the impact of colors and styles on perception, consumer psychology, and the influence of social media on body image.

7. Fashion Business & Marketing:

This module provides insights into fashion branding and identity, social media and digital marketing for fashion, basics of fashion retail and e-commerce, and pricing strategies and costing in fashion.

8. Sustainable & Ethical Fashion:

This module discusses the key concepts and importance of sustainable fashion, ethical sourcing and responsible production practices, the role of upcycling and circular fashion, and how to make conscious fashion choices as a consumer.

9. Careers in Fashion & Portfolio Development:

This module explores different career paths in fashion, such as design, styling, and merchandising. It offers tips on building a strong portfolio or fashion blog, networking, gaining industry experience, and staying updated on future trends in fashion.
